Carol Ann Hapgood, 83, loving wife and mother, and true friend to many, died on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Legacy House in Ocala, FL surrounded by her family. She was the daughter to the late Walter J. and Dorothy F. Hamill Ryder of Thompsonville, CT. Carol was born and grew up in Thompsonville, CT where she married her soul mate Phil Hapgood from Hazardville, CT. She traveled the world in support of his military career while starting a family. They later returned to her home town to raise their three sons. They moved to Dunnellon, FL for their retirement years which were filled with more traveling, golfing, and entertaining friends and family. Carol loved to tell stories of her colorful past and always held a captive audience. Those left to cherish her unconditional love and memories are her husband of sixty two years, Phil Hapgood, Ocala, FL, her sons and daughters Jim Hapgood (Etta), Ocala, FL, Mark Hapgood (Suzanne), Wethersfield, CT, and Douglas Hapgood (Cheryl), Ocala, FL; her sister, Eileen Whitten (Willis), Dunnellon, FL; her four grandchildren, Lindsay (Marshall), Tyler, Alexander, Alaina (Chris), and two great grandchildren, Ryder and Riley.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 9:30 AM in the chapel (crying room) before the mass at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon. Following the Mass at 2:00 PM, Inurnment with Committal services will take place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
