Dorothy M. Tjaden, 93, died in the early morning hours on January 10, 2017, under the care of Hospice of Marion County at her daughter’s residence in Dunnellon.  She leaves behind her husband of 74yrs, four months and five days, Dean Tjaden, Dunnellon; her son Dean Tjaden, Jr., (Anita); her daughter, Roberta Greaves, Dunnellon; her ten grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sharon and her husband Robert Boysen, her sister Eleanor Pahlke and her husband Lawrence, and her son-in-law Gerald Greaves.

Dorothy was born September 4, 1923 to the late Robert Mailfald and Victoria(Christiansen) in Highland Park, Illinois. In 1942, she married Dean in Ontario, California while he was in flight training during WWII. She retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company.  In 1978, they moved to Homestead, FL, then to Debary and eventually made their home in Dunnellon. As a devoted Christian woman who became a pen pal to many, she loved supporting Christian missions around the world. It was in her faith and her giving heart that she devoted her time as a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in helping others.  In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed photo scrapbooking as her family indicated, “If it wasn’t in the scrapbook it didn’t happen”.  She was a family oriented wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother and a dear friend to many.  She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Memorial Services celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 11:00 AM with a memorial visitation held one hour prior to service time at Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon with her grandson, Pastor Christopher Greaves officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy’s family has requested that memorial contributions be made to support C.A.M.A. (Compassion And Mercy Associates) c/o Piedmont Park Alliance Church: 3210 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
