OBITUARY

Hume Alexander Vann, Jr., 90 of Orlando, Florida, entered into eternal peace on Friday, October 6, 2017, at the Vitas Hospice Unit in Winter Garden, Florida. Born in Dunnellon to Hume and Effie (Sandlin) Vann, he lived most of his life in Orlando.

At 17, Hume enlisted in the Navy Reserves and was stationed in Sasebo, Japan as a Yeoman, 3rd Class, near the end of WWII. After discharge from the Navy, Hume began working for Southern Bell Telephone Company where he stayed for more than 30 years. Not one to stay inactive and  showing his fun-loving spirit, he decided to work in security for Disney Corporation where he finally retired after 25 years.  Hume's graciousness and passion for helping people led to his being awarded Disney's most prestigious employee honor, the Partners in Excellence Award.

A loyal and devoted husband, Hume was the sole caretaker for his wife for more than 40 years, Meredith, until her passing of Alzheimer's on October 10, 2012. He leaves behind three devoted children, Marc Vann of Tallahassee, FL, Terry Shumann (Noel) of Newnan, GA, and Gail Quinn (Bob) of Quincy, FL, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, his sister Juanita Marshall of Largo Fl, and loving niece and nephews.

A private family graveside service is planned for a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of his favorite animal charities, Best Friends Animal Society online at best friends.org or at 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah, 84741.
