LANCASTER, John L.
5/23/1939 - 5/24/2019
John peacefully passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 in Ocala, FL near his home in Dunnellon, just one day after his 80th birthday. In those years he shared so much love and generosity with his family and friends who will surely miss him.
Born John Leonard Lancaster in Pikeville TN, he grew up in a small town, but spent most of his adult life in the Miami FL metro area. There he worked, played and raised two daughters with the love of his life Elenia. He died just one week shy of their 58th wedding anniversary.
Family and friends will always remember his gentle nature, sense of humor, friendliness and his generosity. He did so much for many, including taking care of his wife in her times of need. He loved watching movies (especially horror and comedies) and he loved to draw in his spare time. Travel was also a passion and he enjoyed all the little trips to parks and beaches with his family as well as some amazing trips to Europe and Asia.
John’s many accomplishments at work and in volunteering are well documented. Most of his life he was employed as a printer and copy center manager, but took great pride in his volunteer work later in life for the Dunnellon Fire Department and Marion County Sheriff Department (Dunnellon). His greatest pride and joy were his two daughters, a grandson and a granddaughter.
John was proceeded in death by his father Leonard Lancaster in 1974 and his mother Ida Lee “Peggy Brooks” Millard in 2007. He is survived by his loving wife Elenia Lancaster (Portalatin), daughter Joyce Petrosky (Lancaster) of Tavares FL, daughter Joy Lancaster of Rolling Meadows IL, grandson Bryan Lopez of Orlando FL and granddaughter Victoria Petrosky of Tavares FL as well as extended family and friends. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
