Lawrence E. Dorsey, Sr., 73, of Dunnellon, FL passed away Sunday, June 4th after a courageous battle with cancer.  Larry was born in Wilmington, DE to Daniel R. Dorsey, Sr., and Edith Smith Dorsey.  He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Daniel Richard, Bernard A., Francis Joseph, William T. and Gerald R. Dorsey.

Larry and his wife, Mary Anne (Lawler) would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on June 28th.  They share three children, Laura Aubuchon (Steve), Lawrence Jr., and Jaime Dorsey Sterner (Jason), and three much loved grandchildren, Wesley Aubuchon, Julia and Jackson Sterner.  Larry leaves a sister, Mary Breslin (Michael) of Dunnellon, and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Dorothy Dorsey of Wilmington, DE, and brother-in-law, Rev. William J. Lawler of Maryland and Howard J. Lawler (Mary) of Omaha, NE and many nieces and nephews.

Larry grew up in Wilmington, DE and graduated from Wilmington High School (’63).  He was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served in the US Army (First Brigade – 101st Airborne Division).  After his military service, he worded at Electric Hose & Rubber for a year and then Dupont Chambers Works for 25 years.  Larry retired from Dupont in ‘93 and then continued working in various jobs, including St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware Park in Stanton, and Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.  Larry always enjoyed playing cards, chess, bingo, tennis, and going to the racetrack and casino as well as following the Phillies and Notre Dame.  He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren and visited several times a year.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Citrus Springs on Wednesday, June 14th at 10 am.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, June 13th, at Roberts Funeral Home, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Dunnellon.  Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hospice of Marion County in Larry’s memory.
