James “Jim” Thompson, 81, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend died on Saturday, April 14, 2019 at his residence in Dunnellon, FL. Jim was born into this life on July 30, 1937 in Paducah, Kentucky. He was the son to the late Fred and Mattie Belle (Bichon) Thompson. Jim grew up in Kentucky and after High School he enlisted in the US Navy and later on the US Air Force. In 1957 he met his future wife Dawn while he was stationed in New Jersey. They got married in 1958 and enjoyed a full life of 60 years together. While in the military Jim and Dawn and their five children lived in several different states throughout the years. After Jim’s military career the Lord was calling him to Church Ministry and he followed his calling and enrolled at Logos Bible College in Jacksonville, FL. He Pastored the First Assembly Church in Goulds, FL from 1981 until 1982. Jim enjoyed teaching, studying Greek and cultural languages. He even wrote a book and had it published. Jim was a Gunsmith by trade and enjoyed building and designing different calibers of firearms. In 2003 Jim and Dawn made their home in Dunnellon and worshiped at First Baptist Church in Dunnellon. As Jim’s health started to decline he stayed positive and continued to live life to the fullest. On Saturday, April 14th, Jim was surrounded by his loving when his Lord and Savior called him home peacefully.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Thompson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty years, Dawn Thompson, Dunnellon, FL; his children, Clinton Thompson (Sherry), Jacksonville, Robin Thompson (Evie), Reddick, FL, Barbara Harrison (James Cruce), Ft. McCoy, FL Tamie Baccili (Dustin Corbett), Reddick, FL and Karen Lehman (Eddie), Archer, FL; his nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. “We Love You and We Will Miss you until we meet again.
