Denver L “Mac” Sheffield, 76, died on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at his residence in Dunnellon in the care of Hospice of Marion County. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care he received.
Mac was born into this life on February 13, 1943 in Donalsonville, GA, son of the late John C and Duna Beth (Davis) Sheffield. He was raised in Colquitt, GA until his family moved to Pahokee, FL where they worked in the produce business. In 1968 he was drafted into the Army and shipped overseas from Fort Rucker, AL. Upon his return from Vietnam, he finished his Army Reserve commitment in 1970.
Mac met his wife in Belle Glade, FL and they were married in November 1989 in Dunnellon. He was employed as a produce truck broker in Ocala with Alvarez Truck Brokers of Florida until his retirement in 2005. He then devoted his time serving on domestic mission trips to Maine, South Dakota and West Virginia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and model railroading, but most importantly his love for God in serving as a deacon at North Oak Baptist Church. He also served many years on the Board of Annie Johnson Service Center and the Dunnellon Historic Society at the Dunnellon Depot and received the Service Above Self Award from the Dunnellon Chamber of Commerce.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mac is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Lisa (Fogle) Sheffield, Dunnellon, his sister, Linda Steele (Bobby), Dunnellon, his stepson, George Silva, Dunnellon, brothers-in-law John and Mark Fogle, Canton, OH, and many cousins and friends.
Memorial Services celebrating Mac’s life will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM at North Oak Baptist Church. A Memorial Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the Memorial Service, everyone is invited to continue to share memories and fellowship at a luncheon in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, Mac’s family prefers donations be made to North Oak Baptist Church, 9324 N. Elkcam Blvd, Citrus Springs, FL 34433.
