The spirit of “Doc” Andrews passed from this earth on February 19, 2018. He was born on August 28, 1935 in Candor, NY, the son of Robert and Velma (Meddaugh) Andrews.
He was a 1953 graduate of Candor Central School in New York. Following high school, he joined the military, qualified for special training, then served over two years on Okinawa as a member of the 8603 DU, Army Security Agency.
Following his discharge from the military, he became office manager at Crown Industries in Owego, NY, and married the former Florence M. Kanne. Suffering a back injury, he tried the usual medical care, which failed. At last resort, he tried Chiropractic, which was successful. This ignited his interest in the health field. With Florence’s support, the GI Bill, and part time jobs, he graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College in September 1962.
Upon opening his practice in Dryden, NY, he received the usual medial bias. In time he became “my good buddy” to some who had previously opposed him. After 37 years in practice, he retired in March of 2000.
Doc was a charter member of the Dryden, NY Jaycees, and earned several local, district and state awards. He was also a member of his hometown American Legion Post 907 in Candor NY.
In July 1986, he married Judith Johanson Moore.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Roger and Karl Andrews, and by his loving wife of over 24 years, Judie Johanson Moore Andrews. His is survived by his two sisters, Mary Dence and Georgia Smith-Vergason, and several nieces and nephews.
Instead of flowers for Doc, do a good deed for someone less fortunate than you. Flowers are gone in 3 days, a good deed will last forever. Doc does ask that you make donations to the American Legion Post 907 in Candor, NY, and also to the Candor Emergency Squad, 58 Main St., Candor, NY. They are local people, volunteering their time for the benefit of their community.
Memorial services for “Doc” Andrews will be held at 2 PM Friday, March 2, 2018, at Roberts Funeral Home, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Dunnellon, with Pastor Terry McKee officiating.
