Bernice D. Crissman
Our family matriarch, Bernice (Bea) Crissman, age 94, surrounded by loved ones at home in Dunnellon, FL, went to be with the Lord early Saturday evening, August 22.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and neighbor.
She graduated from Goldey Beacom Business College in Wilmington, DE and was able to “parlay” her business education into much coveted positions at Mack and Company (Wilmington, DE) Delaware Importers (Wilmington, DE) and Chrysler (Newark, DE). She was a valuable employee and highly sought after by former employers.
She was an active church member for years and served as church pianist at Holloway Terrace Baptist Church, (Wilmington, DE) and in later years at Calvary Baptist Church (Newark, DE).
Bea married the love of her life, Harry Crissman, in 1939. They were married for 65 years. In 1975 they relocated to Orlando, Florida from the Delaware/Pennsylvania Area.
Her grandchildren have many happy memories; hearing stories from her past, sharing meals especially prepared for them, set around a table suitable for Southern Living…a table where love and laughter were also served. Her fried chicken was a family favorite.
Love was all around her and everything she touched she made beautiful and special. She had a quiet strength and no matter what challenges presented themselves, she worked hard and handled things with grace and tact.
Bea was a devout Christian lady. She was a role model and mentor in our lives. She loved us deeply and always saw the best in us and that love will live on through each of us. Even in her final days her thoughts and prayers were still focused on the wellbeing of family members.
Bernice was pre-deceased by her parents William and Mabel Davis, five sisters, three brothers, and her loving husband, Harry B. Crissman.
She is survived by her son K. Wayne Crissman (Nancy), daughter Constance Crissman, son Scott T. Crissman (Teresa), seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held on August 28 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Gotha, FL and Bea and Harry will be side by side once again.
Thank you, Mom, for always fighting the good fight and running the race of life beautifully.
