Mrs. Beryl Joyce Chang, age 80, of Dunnellon, Florida, passed away on February 17, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Beryl was born on August 9, 1944, in Spanish Town, Jamaica, to Joseph Byfield and Hepsibah Byfield. From a young age, she dreamed of becoming a nurse, a passion she pursued at Kingston Public Hospital, where she graduated in 1966 with her nursing degree. Shortly after, she migrated to the bustling city of the Bronx, New York, where she worked at Jacobi Medical Center. Beryl later married the love of her life, Russell J. Chang, and together they had three wonderful children: Russell Chang, Steven Chang, and Dwight Chang. The family eventually moved south to Florida, where Beryl continued her nursing career at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. In 2009, after forty-three years of dedicated service, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and kindness. Beryl had a zest for life. She loved hosting unforgettable gatherings, dancing, and was a fierce Scrabble competitor. Yet her love and commitment to family were the true embodiment of her spirit. She was known as a trusted friend and advisor to those she held dear. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many, and her presence brought comfort and wisdom to all who knew her. God’s blessings continued with the gift of five beautiful grandchildren. Beryl is survived by her beloved brother, Selvyn, and three cherished sisters, Doret, Moreen, and Julia. Roberts Funeral Home will host the Prayer Service on Friday, February 28, 2025. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on March 1, 2025, followed by interment at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Marion County, the Coping with Dementia Society, all the caregivers who provided comfort and support, and the family and friends who offered their unwavering support. Beryl’s favorite quote was, “Always remember to treat others the way you would like to be treated.” She exemplified this principle every day as a faithful servant of the Lord, touching the hearts of everyone she encountered.
