Betty Ashmead

Mrs. Betty Ashmead, 86, of Dunnellon, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016, following a brief illness.  A native of Winchester, VA, Mrs. Ashmead moved to Dunnellon in 1996, coming here from Clearwater, FL.  Her survivors include her daughter Sherri Woodstuff (John), daughter Karen Frye, sons Freddy Ashmead IV and Jeffrey Ashmead, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Mrs. Ashmead’s son Greg Hankins died in 1969 while serving in the US Marine Corps in Viet Nam.  She is also preceded in death by her husband Frederick Ashmead III.  Mrs. Ashmead was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dunnellon, where she was known as the “Badge Cop.”  Her personal ministry was to get everyone to wear name badges to better enable folks to know one another’s name.  To honor her memory, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church to further her “Badge Ministry.”
Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Thursday, January 28, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Dunnellon.  The family will receive friends from 5-6 PM.  Interment will take place on Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg.
