Matthews, Charles “Chip”

Chip Matthews, of Ocala, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2017.    Chip was born October 30, 1946 to Leslie and Lib Matthews in Erwin, NC.  He graduated from Lillington High School in 1965, then attended Campbell University, before serving in the United States Navy from 1968-1972.  He married Sue Long of Ocala in 1971, and spent the rest of his years as a loving husband and father.

Chip spent many years working in the convenient store industry in North Carolina, Tennessee, and then Ocala.  The last several years before retiring, Chip was a Realtor – Broker in Marion County.  He was a past member of the Ocala Elks Lodge, active in Babe Ruth youth baseball, and the Ocala – Marion County Board of Realtors.

Chip was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Matthews, Sr. and his mother, Lib Matthews, both of Lillington, NC.  He is survived by his wife Sue Matthews, son and daughter-in-law Allen and April Matthews (Rocky Mount, NC), daughter and son-in-law Sara and Tim Glisson (Ocala), and his beloved grandchildren, Henry Matthews, and Gracie and Katie Glisson.  He is also survived by siblings Billy Ray and Mary Lou Matthews (Lillington, NC), Becky and Landis Ferrell (Raleigh, NC), and Leslie and Tunisia Matthews (Chesapeake, VA).  There are many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that are left to cherish his memory.

Chip was brought up in the First Presbyterian Church and then was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala.  He loved the Lord and knew that when his days ended he would be in Heaven.  He knew the Lord had a plan for his life and fervently hoped that those he knew and loved would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Services will be Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Ocala.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 and continue until service time.  Burial will be on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
