Charles Ira Woods Jr., 88, died peacefully Friday May 17, 2013 in The Villages, Florida where he has been a resident for the past 13 years. Chuck was born in Lemont, IL on March 29, 1925. He served in World War II in the Navy, as a Chief Petty Officer in the engine rooms of a LST in the Pacific. He came home to Lemont and immediately enrolled at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, IL where he met his future wife, Shirley Reed Campbell. They married and Chuck transferred to Bradley University where he finished his Engineering degree in 1950. After graduation he started working for General Electric and continued with them until his retirement in 1984 from Black and Decker which had bought out his division several years before his retirement. The last two positions before his retirement included plant manager in Singapore for three years and plant manager in Mexico for one year.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley Woods, his children Susan Woods Sinclair and husband Mike of South Burlington,VT and The Villages, Charles “Sam” Ira Woods III and wife Gail of Cazenovia, NY and Laura Frances Woods and husband Dusty of Raleigh, NC. Chuck was also the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at The Church on the Square at 12:00 Noon on May 30, 2013.
Chuck will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell on May 30, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
