Collette Joy Petkanics, 79, passed away on February 10, 2013 in Ocala, FL. She is the beloved wife of 60 years of Robert P. Petkanics and the daughter of the late William Alfred Preston and Iris Brown Preston. Collette was born in New York, NY on October 23, 1933. Collette and Robert moved to the Dunnellon area of Florida 21 years ago from Chicago, IL. She was a homemaker, a devoted gardener and an art lover. When her three children were younger, she was the chief chauffeur and volunteer for their many and varied sports, music, dance and scouting activities. She volunteered for many years at the Appleton Museum in Ocala and also worked as a secretary and receptionist in the shipping industry prior to moving to Florida.
Family members left to cherish her memories are her son, Bryan G. Petkanics, and his wife, Sandy, NY; her daughter, Donna M. Petkanics and her husband, Jay R. Gerstenschlager, CA and her other daughter, Brenda J. Petkanics, FL; her seven grandchildren, Douglas B. Petkanics and his wife, Jaime, CA, Scott R. Petkanics, CA, Elizabeth A. Petkanics, NY, Karina A. Gerstenschlager, OH, Kyle P. Petkanics, CA, James W. Petkanics, FL and Kyla G. Petkanics, FL.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Advent, Dunnellon, FL with Rev. Lewis officiating. Interment will be held in the church garden on the same date.
