Dana Francis Ewell

Dana Francis Ewell, AKA- Pop Pop, 74, died on August 6, 2024. He was born on January 29, 1950 in Washington D.C. the son to the late Guy and Margaret (Koerber) Ewell. Dana grew up in the Washington D.C. area and in Hyattsville Maryland. He joined the United States Navy in 1969 and became a HM3 Corpsmen. After he served his time with the Navy, he took his G.I. Bill and turned to the medical field first becoming a LPN then finished his education by becoming a Certified Psychiatric Nurse and worked in this profession until retirement.

During his busy fascinating life, he was always learning which included a Taxidermy and a Scuba Diving Certificate, taking flying lessons, making his own bullets, beer, apple cider and Apple Jack. He and Jeannie had two beautiful girls and a home in Garland Maine where they raised their own meat and vegetables. They built a Cedar Log cabin from the wood he harvested from their land, and dug a spring fed pond behind the log cabin and filled it with trout so his girls could fish and swim. He had a great love of animals and loved taking his girls to the auction where they brought home some pitiful animal they wanted to save. He had an asparagus map corresponding to the yellow arrows he sprayed on country roads pointing to where asparagus was growing from old homesteads. Dana was an All American who loved his Country, God and the Bible. Dana spent his later years in Dunnellon, was a member of the American Legion Post 58 and a member of the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association). His hobbies were collecting guns, guitars and watching old movies. Dana was a loving Father and Grandfather who would continue to show love to his children and grandchildren, whom he sent Birthday and Christmas cards every year. We Love You and We will Miss you until we meet again.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda; Dana’s brother, Christian Ewell died eleven days after him.

Dana is survived by his daughters, Andrea Cerbone and Jerusha Hampe (James Hampe); his brothers, Richard Ewell and his sister, Bonnie Wright; niece Karen Wilson; his grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas whom he called (Joey), Sophia, Olivia, Kepha, Anthony, Michael, Giuseppa (Peppa), Maximillian, Emily; his stepbrother, Brian and his former wives, Jeannie Mawhinney and Barbara Ewell.

A committal service with military honors will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, FL 33513.
