Dixie L. Bowlby

Dixie L. Bowlby, 72, died on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at her winter residence in Dunnellon, FL. She was born on August 14, 1951 in Lancaster, Ohio and was the daughter to the late William and Miriam (Johnson) Leach. Growing up as a military child, her parents travelled a lot to different states.  She attended eleven different schools during her upbringing and eventually graduated from Berne High School in 1969 in Sugar Grove, Ohio. In 1975, she married Richard Bowlby and lived in Lancaster for a short period of time and then Logan, Ohio, where she and her husband raised their family and fostered many children. Dixie went back to school to further her education and  attended Ohio University earning her diploma in 1989. She was a teacher with the Logan Hocking School District. During her career, Dixie taught pre-schoolers through eighth grade amongst other different teaching positions. She was inducted into the Logan-Hocking Teachers Hall of Fame in 2016.  Dixie was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church, and in her leisure time enjoyed travelling, cruising, bowling and animals. In 2011, she and her husband bought a home in Dunnellon, FL to spend the winters there, as it reminded them so much of Ohio. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Linda Lamb.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of forty eight years, Richard Bowlby, Logan, OH; her sons, Mark Bowlby (Stephanie), Lancaster, OH, David Bowlby (Lucy), Lancaster, OH, Scott Bowlby (Rochele), Logan, OH and Michael Tuthill and his girlfriend, Cami, Logan, OH; her grandchildren, Ian, Emily, Christopher, Benjamin, Braylon and Briele.

Memorial Contributions can be made in Dixie’s memory to Hocking County Humane Society.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Ohio.
