Eileen Whitten, 88, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026.
Eileen was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and raised in Enfield, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy Ryder of Thompsonville, Connecticut. From an early age, Eileen found her calling in caring for others. She attended nursing school and became a registered nurse, beginning a long and fulfilling career at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Nursing was more than a career for Eileen-it was a reflection of her caring and compassionate nature.
Eileen married the love of her life, Willis Whitten, and together they made their home in Middletown, Connecticut. They shared many wonderful years together and, after retiring, set out to enjoy the next chapter of their lives. They traveled throughout the country, making memories along the way, before eventually settling in Ocala, Florida, where they could be closer to family.
Eileen and Willis truly embraced their golden years. They enjoyed their time together, their travels, and simple pleasures of being surrounded by family and friends. Their life together was filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories.
Eileen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willis; her sister Carol; her brother-in-law Phil; and her parents, Walter and Dorothy Ryder.
She leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who will remember her with love and affection and cherish the memories they made with her throughout the years.
Eileen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her caring spirit, warm heart, and the life she shared with Willis will remain a lasting part of the memories of her family and those fortunate enough to have known her.
A Committal service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
