Ellen May Patterson Nicol,
Age 92,
passed on in Ocala, FL,  on March 14, 2016.

She was born in Rochester NY on March 4, 1924 to Leroy and Sophie Louise Rund Patterson and lived her first 50 years in our beloved Rochester.  She graduated from East High School.  Working in the Rochester airport weather bureau in 1942, she met her first husband, Paul Jones, who had a lifelong passion for flying.  They married in 1946 and worked together in their Scottsville Rd. mobile home sales and park,  which bordered the airport.  They had  children in 1951, 1954, and 1958, later divorcing.

In the late 1960s Ellen worked most notably as secretary to George Sisler, president of the AAA International Baseball League based in Rochester.  There she met her second husband, Times-Union sportswriter and Silver Stadium official scorer Al Weber.  They enjoyed many good times attending Red Wings games at home and on the road, spring training in Florida, and the World Series, all of which Al reported on for the Times-Union.  He passed away suddenly in 1972.  Ellen moved to Torrance CA where she married Jack Beattie.  With the end of that marriage, she moved to Ft. Lauderdale FL, then later to Lake City where she married Robert Nicol, and finally to Anthony, FL in 1981.  Bob Nicol died in 2004 after they had had 28 years together spent sharing their mutual love for turtles, tortoises, and birds, and having had many fascinating friendships with other "turtle people".  Ellen was also talented at drawing, sewing, and writing.

Ellen is survived by daughter Linda Jones Pickens (James) of Anthony FL and son Kenneth Jones of N. Charleston SC; grandchildren Rocky and Derek Breeden and Kerin Breeden Rivera;  Evan, Graham, and Shannon Jones; and four great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her parents and by son Steven Jones in 2008.  She has cousins and many other distant Rund/Patterson/North relatives in the Rochester and Finger Lakes areas.

Grateful thanks to all who gave flawlessly kind and professional care to Ellen, especially the staff at Estelle's House (Hospice of Marion County).  At her request, there will be no services.  Burial arrangements are pending.

In Ellen's memory, acts of kindness to animals and people will be very much appreciated and a meaningful legacy of her long and remarkable life.
