Frank Richard Elkes, Sr. died peacefully at home on November 26, 2015 in Ocala, Florida at the age of 85.
Frank is survived by his wife, Gayle Page Strickland Elkes and his children, Frank R. “Chip” Elkes, Jr., Burns Keller Elkes and Tammy Elkes Strogis. He is also survived by his half-sister, Beverly Elkes Stanion and his step-children, Edmond Strickland, Page Strickland Branson and Stuart Strickland. Frank was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalind Keller Elkes.
Frank was born on April 25, 1930 in Tampa, Florida to Eugene R. Elkes and Frona Williams Elkes. He attended high school at Plant High School in Tampa and Castle Heights Military School in Lebanon, Tennessee. He also attended Vanderbilt University and Stetson Law School.
Frank was a pilot and worked as an Air Traffic Controller in the Navy. As a young man, he worked at his family’s car dealership. After moving to Ocala in 1970, Frank worked in the mobile home industry and in commercial real estate.
He was a lifelong boater and avid fisherman. He also enjoyed golfing and traveling. He loved his family, his friends and his dogs dearly! His joy and enthusiasm for life were endless. He will be greatly missed.
A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, December 2 from 9:00 – 9:30am followed by a funeral service at 10:00am. Both will be held at First United Methodist Church of Ocala. A committal service will be held graveside at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, Tampa, Florida at 3:00pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Frank’s life.
