George E. Ditmar, age 87, a resident of Citrus Springs, Florida, passed away at Citrus Memorial Hospital Hospice, on January 3, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Baumgardner) Ditmar and was born in Revere, Massachusetts on March 26, 1927. George was raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. attending Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High in 1945. After two years in the Navy, he entered Williams College and captained the baseball and basketball teams and graduated in 1951. He taught at Canterbury Prep School, Connecticut and then worked at General Electric Company in Pittsfield. He relocated to Palm Beach, Florida and worked for Pratt Whitney and traveled to Tokyo and Australia. When he retired, he moved to Citrus Springs where he played golf until the past few years and enjoyed watching sports.
Along with his wife, Helen, he is survived by his two sons, Mark and his wife, Nina, of Manahawkin, New Jersey and his three granddaughters and Christopher of Charlottesville, Virginia. Also survived by his brother, Arthur (formerly of the New York Yankees) and his wife, Dianne, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his sister, Virginia Donlin, of Westford, Massachusetts and many nieces, nephews and friends. George was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey. Burial will be at the convenience of his family.
