US Navy Lt. Commander, George G. Melonson ,83, died on Thursday, January 9, 2014 in Ocala, FL. He was born April 30, 1930 to the late George and Caroline (Legro) Melonson in North Reading, MA.
George moved to Florida in 1997 from Virginia. He proudly served our country in the US Navy for twenty three years obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. George had a passion for golf and played locally, achieving a hole in one many times. He was a handyman who could fix just about everything. A very simple quiet man who truly enjoyed his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
George is preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey and his sister, Mildred Higbee.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna Melonson, Dunnellon, FL; his son, David Melonson and his wife Teresa of Lancaster, NY; his daughters, Darlene Rudolph, Woodbridge, VA, Debbie Baird and her husband, Elray of Provo, UT and Diane Saucier and her husband, Val of Albion, Maine; his stepdaughter, Karen Carrico, Ashburn, VA; his sister, Jeanette Hall, Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and his two kitty cats, Lily and Sandee. We love you and we will miss you until we meet again.
There will be a public visitation on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 2-4 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home in Dunnellon with a wake service starting at 3:30 PM. Burial with full military honors will be held at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico VA.
