George Alfred “AL” Smith Jr age 86 passed away at home on June 2, 2011 in Ocala, Florida. He was born November 4, 1924 in Webster Plantation, Maine the son of the late George Alfred Smith Sr. and Katie McAlpine Smith. He graduated from Eastern Maine Institute Springfield Maine class of 1943. Al worked in the pulp and paper industry for 40 years in Lincoln and Baileyville Maine. He enjoyed owning Grand Lake Lodge in Grand Lake Stream for several years. He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years Peggy, and three children, Kenyon (Carol); Craig (Coleen); Marikay (David) McGinty. Grandchildren Todd (Jennifer), Dean (Aliana), Jason; Amy, Troy, Corey, Eric Smith, Stephanie Doughty, Melissa (Ed) McKersie, David McGinty Jr., Alicia Hartford. Great Grandfather of 14. Brothers Ivan(Kathy), Mayland (Shelia), Herbert (Gladys) and sister Eleanor Webster, Dorothy Dill and Mabel Dill, also many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Elmer, Earl, Lester, Merlin Smith and sister Beatrice Severance. Graveside services will be held at Lincoln Cemetery at a later date.
