Gerald J. Cali was born in Bronx NY July 4, 1942, where he grew up until 1956, when his family moved to Brewster, NY. He lived with his parents and older brother, Michael, learning the rural lifestyle and enjoying fishing and hunting. He graduated from Brewster High School 1960 and entered electrical apprenticeship with his brother upon completion of the latter’s military enlistment. He met June Foley, the love of his life, in June 1961 at Putnam Lake Beach. All it took was a wave to one another and a ride in his new red (his favorite color) Chevy Impala. They were married in 1964. He built their first house in New Fairfield, CT in 1969, living there until they returned to Brewster and built their home there in 1978.
In his career, he worked his way from apprentice to superintendent. He worked in each of NYC’s Burroughs, except for Staten Island, with an affectionate highlight working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, ultimately retiring after 40 years. He built their Dunnellon, FL house in 1990 retiring here in 1999. He loved playing golf, fishing and the outdoors, his cars, wood working and making/fixing things. He was always helping, had a big smile and a warm loving embrace for everyone. His wife, June, said- “All I ever had to say is I need…, and he would make it, fix it or help”.
Mr. Cali was predeceased by his brother, Michael, on July 26, 2024, and is survived by his wife of 60 years June and his much-loved puppy Gabriella, his sister-in-law, JoAnn Cali, niece Michelle Sullivan, and nephews Joseph and Dean Cali; along with several other nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
