Gregory Lee Caldwell

October 5, 1954 — November 6, 2021

Romeo

Gregory Lee Caldwell, 67, passed on to Heaven on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Greg was the son of Randolph D. Caldwell and Reba Louisa Markham Caldwell and was born in Jacksonville, Florida on October 5, 1954, the youngest of three brothers, each with their own distinct personality. Greg often remarked that his childhood was one of hard work, adventures, curiosity, and staying “one step ahead” of his (very smart) mother.

Greg graduated from Jacksonville’s Englewood High School in 1972 and from there, graduated from the University of North Florida in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Greg worked in sales management with several companies; the last being Williston’s CrackerStyle Log Homes, alongside Bubba and Dixie Howell.

Greg and Linda Hansen Caldwell were married for 38+ years. Originally living in Jacksonville, they moved each time a transfer took them elsewhere. Greg and Linda have resided in the Romeo area of Dunnellon since 2003, living on land that was once part of a Federal Land Grant received by the late John Markham in 1889.

If you didn’t know Greg, you definitely knew someone who KNEW him or others in his family. Greg was especially fond of NASCAR, Florida Gator football, and Lady Gator Volleyball. He was a member of the Lady Gator Volleyball Attack Club. He enjoyed taking care of his property and sharing local history. Greg was an optimistic person who rarely said “no” when a friend needed a helping hand. He had fun entertaining friends, going to car shows, camping, watching baseball games, and TCM movies. While most people don’t enjoy driving, Greg truly enjoyed it. He was also an avid blood donor and he’d think it would be great if you’d drop by LifeSouth to donate a unit.

Greg is survived by his wife (Linda Hansen Caldwell), his daughter (Brittany Lin Caldwell Renkel), his brother (Randolph D. Caldwell), and Aunts (Marnelle Sampson, Rachel Carpenter). He leaves four treasured grandchildren (Gloria Lane “Laney Bug” Renkel), Morgan Hollis (“Mo Mo”) Renkel, Killian Jack (“KJ”) Caldwell, and Brice Thomas Caldwell. He will be missed by daughter-in-law Nadine Oxman Caldwell, son-in-law Brian William Renkel, sister-in-law Cheri Martin Caldwell, and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. Greg also leaves behind his closest and dearest friend of many years, Richard D. Reel. He was predeceased by his son (Brian Thomas Caldwell), his brother (James Harmon Caldwell), as well as his parents.

Friends and family will celebrate Greg’s life with a memorial “Roast and Toast.” at 10:00 AM at Crackerstyle Log Homes in Williston, FL on March 5th.  Please reserve your seat at linda1954susan@gmail.com.
