Groover Leland Mercer

Groover Leland Mercer, 87, died on December 17, 2022 at Advent Health in Ocala, FL. He was born on February 23, 1935 in Center Hill, FL and was the son to the late Andrew Jackson Mercer and Annie May (Hudgins) Mercer.

Leland was raised in Wildwood, FL and was a 1954 graduate of Wildwood High School. After graduation, Leland enlisted with the United States Air Force. Following his service with the military, he moved back to Wildwood where he met his wife, Anne Myrtle (Altman) whom he married in 1955. They made their home in Birmingham, Alabama where Leland worked and retired from the Alabama Power Company. While living in Birmingham, he was active with the First Baptist Church of Irondale and In 2004, when Leland retired from the power company, he and his wife made their home in Dunnellon where he became a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Ocala. He was a Shriner and a member of the Inglis, Fl Masonic Lodge #324. Leland enjoyed ballroom dancing and singing gospel music. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his brother.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 67yrs., Myrtle; his daughter, Andrea Mercer Roberts; his son, Michael Leland Mercer; his daughter, Katherine Mercer Froman (Michael); his sister, Evelyn Peterson ; his grandchildren, Patrick William Roberts, Lyndsay Aryn Roberts Baronet (Blaine) and his great grandchildren, Saylor, Emmersyn and one on the way.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Friendship Baptist Church: 9510 SW 105th Street Ocala, FL 34481. There will be a public viewing held one hour prior to service time in the church. There will be a light lunch in the church hall following services. Burial will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at 2:00 PM with military honors.
