Gundy Burg came into this world Adelgunde Agnes Tittko, the youngest of four children, on 10 January 1934 in Lohnau, Silesia, Germany, now Lany, Poland.
Gundy passed away in peace at Hospice of Marion County at Legacy House in Ocala, Florida on 16 January 2015, at age 81. Her family remained by her side until the end. Wife, mother, grandmother, you will be dearly missed. You were always a very sweet person.
During the closing days of World War II, the Tittko family and a young Gundy escaped westward and settled in the Harz Mountains region of West Germany in the town of Bad Harzburg, Niedersachsen. After meeting her future husband, Bernhard, in Reil / Mosel River region of Germany, the pair moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada for a time where they married in Saint Patrick's Catholic Church. They made several trans-Atlantic crossings by ship before immigrating to the United States in April 1960 where they lived in Toms River, New Jersey for many years.
Gundy worked for a time at the local county offices. A beloved mother, homemaker and even hospital candy-striper, Gundy was always vibrant and outgoing. She participated in many activities with friends and family ... camping, canoeing, travel, skiing, singing, tennis cooking and baking, reading and crocheting, gardening, and, of course, photography which she studied as a young lady.
She was bilingual and was a long-time member of the Lakewood Maenner / Damenchoir German social club in Lakewood, New Jersey.
She was active in club events for over two decades, sang in the choir and participated in many, many celebrations with her friends and family. Her friends always enjoyed when she would play her accordion for them and sing. Gundy also enjoyed trips to Canada and elsewhere, especially flying back to her German homeland every few years to spend time with family, including her brother, Bernhard and her two sisters Kathrin and Ria.
In 1993, Bernie and Gundy retired to the Rainbow Springs area in Dunnellon, Florida.
Gundy is survived by her husband, Bernhard of 56 years, her sons Andrew and Lawrence, daughter-in-law, Colleen, four grandchildren, Maeve, Sarah, Timothy and Jakob, and an older sister, Maria Geisler in Bad Harzburg, Germany.
A viewing will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, followed by a short requiem service at Roberts Funeral Home on Sunday, 18 January 2015, East Pennsylvania Avenue, Dunnellon, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Marion County, Florida.
