Helene LaForce Marks, born July 27, 1924, died peacefully on February 4, 2016 in Legacy House in Ocala. Helene was born in the French province of Quebec, Canada and grew up in Waterbury, Connecticut. During her last years in grade school and into her high school years, part of her education was a variety of techniques of sewing and needlecrafts that would serve her in the years ahead.

She married Joseph Marks on March 29, 1946. Joe decided to make the Navy his career. This meant that Helene and Joe would move numerous times over the years. They did so while growing a family of 5 children: Susan, Preston, Michele, Peter and Martha. It was during these years that the skills she had learned as a young girl would serve her and her family well. Helene knit socks for her husband and sewed clothing for her children and grandchildren. In her mid-years she became part owner of Fabric Towne while living in Winter Park, FL, a store which focused on bridal material and costume material often bought by Disney World seamstresses.

Helene and Joe came to Dunnellon to retire 30 years ago and found their last years there to be as peaceful as they hoped they would be. During that time they both were very involved in church and outreach ministries at St John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Helene was preceded in death by her husband Joe and her youngest daughter, Martha. She will always be remembered by her children as a creative, talented, generous giver of her time, talents and LOVE!
