Dunnellon – James David Mahoney (Jim), 85, died on October 15, 2015 at MRMC in Ocala Florida. He was born March 3, 1930 to James and Emma (Hoffmann) Mahoney. Retired from Gibbs & Hill (NY) and STV Group (Boston), he is survived by his loving family and wife of 62 years, Marie; son Michael Mahoney (Judy); daughter Susan Mahoney Barnum; grandchildren David Mahoney and Katie Tarr. After living 28 years in Smithtown, NY Jim and Marie retired to Truro, Cape Cod, MA where they lived for 13 years before coming to Florida 14 years ago. He was a graduate of Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and was a licensed Professional Engineer in three states. He furthered his education at Cooper Union in NY. Jim was a parishioner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon where he served as a lector for several years. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and skiing; was an avid reader and loved to travel with Marie. Jim is preceded in death by his brother John, sister Joan Ruderer and son-in-law Edward Barnum. He leaves a good sense of humor and many loving and happy memories.
There will be a funeral Mass celebrated on Saturday, November 7 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association: 378 CenterPointe Circle, Suite: 1280, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701
