James Harold Smith, 81, died unexpectedly in an accident in Ocala, FL on Monday, August 24, 2015. He leaves behind his sons, William Scott Smith (wife-Cindy) and John Steven Smith (wife-Jennifer); his loving grandchildren, Isaac Steven Smith, Andrew Ryan Smith and Matthew Alexander Smith and his devoted companion Salita Timmermeyer, Ocala, FL.
James was born into this life on February 28, 1934 in Oneida, TN. He was the son of the late James Isaac and Rose Etta Smith. James moved to Ocala, FL in 1997 from Albuquerque, NM. He retired as a Scientist and Nuclear Research Physicist from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and served our country with the US Navy as a Radio Communications Officer. James enjoyed playing golf and traveling, but most importantly his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Karen Smith; his brothers, Arthur Smith, Ed Smith and Herbert Smith, and his sisters, Viola Smith, Nell Smith Sutton, and Ruth Liddil.
Memorial Services celebrating James’ life will be held at 10 AM Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Roberts Funeral Home in Dunnellon, FL with Pastor Bob Gentzel officiating. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. Inurnment of James’ cremated remains will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 9:30 AM at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with full Military Honors.
