Joan Marion (Smith) Lindell

Joan Marion Lindell, 91, passed away on December 10, 2023 in her home in Dunnellon, Florida. Joan was born in Vernon, Connecticut on October 12, 1932. She was daughter of the late William E. Smith and Grace Knott Smith. Joan graduated from Rockville High School and Tunxis Community College. On a trip to Washington D.C. Joan met the love of her life, Darrold “Swede” Lindell. They were married in Panama and spent 60 years together. Joan worked for the U.S. Government for 23 years starting as a secretary and retiring as Regional Chief of Housing and Urban Development for Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dunnellon, Daughters of the Revolution, Dunnellon’s Women Club , and Eastern Star.

She was predeceased by her husband Swede and her brother Elliot A. Smith. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Nanette Stafford, Janette Murtha, and Carol Metselaar, seven grandchildren, and nine and a half great grandchildren.

The family has requested any desired donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Dunnellon
