Joann B. Harrington

June 10, 1941 — September 5, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Joann B. Harrington announces her passing on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the age of 77 while vacationing in Qaqortoq, Greenland with friends.  We find solace in knowing that her last days were spent doing what she truly loved, traveling and experiencing new places.

Joann will be lovingly remembered by her sons Patrick (Karen) and Tim (Ann) and her five grandchildren, Tiffany, J.T., Sean, Natalie and Miles.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, John P. Harrington in 2002.

Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania June 10, 1941 to John and Helene Biery.  Joann was a popular, fun-loving child who excelled in her studies, played field hockey and was quite an accomplished pianist.  As the daughter of an auto mechanic, she was, surprisingly, an amazingly poor driverJ.  She married her high school sweetheart, John P. Harrington, in 1964 and embarked on a life of travel and adventure as his career as an Air Force Pilot led them all across the United States and England.  Wherever John’s career took them, Joann adapted, fit in and became very popular.

Known for her positive outlook on life, love for her family and sense of humor, Joann’s calendar was filled with social events with her dear friends, golf, holiday’s with family in Oklahoma, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey and, of course, excursions all over the world with her travel club, the Lady Journey Seekers.  Joann was a friend to everyone and never had a shortage of love to share.  Whether it was her singing of “Happy Birthday” to her kids and grandkids, often over the phone, for every single one or the last text that was waiting in airplane mode to be sent to her oldest son, “In Iceland.. WOW, this is a great life!” Joann had a zest for life and an adventurous side that could not be outrun.

A Mass will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon, FL.  Joann will be laid to rest at the Black Hills National Cemetery with her husband John.
