Joe E. Merrell

Mr. Joe E. Merrell, 83, of Dunnellon, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Advent Health in Ocala.

Born in Shelby, Alabama, Mr. Merrell moved to this area after his retirement from US Steel, where he worked as a millwright.  He proudly served his country in the US Army. He attended First United Methodist Church in Dunnellon.

Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years Dorothy, daughters Cindy Smyth (Danny), Brenda Kingery (Dean), Cathi Davis, Debi Mims (Dwayne), brother Wilton Merrell, his dear friend JoAnn Burton, 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and his canine companions Bentley and Cookie.  Mr. Merrell was preceded in death by his first wife Loretta, his sons Jody Merrell and Tom Brown, and his grandson Joshua Tartaglia.

Committal services were held at Shelby Memorial Gardens in Calera, Alabama.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, July 27, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Dunnellon, with Pastor Eddie Fulford officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
