John Cecil Edison, Jr. (Johnny), 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Haven Hospice in Chiefland. He was born Nov. 21, 1939, in Ocala, Florida to J.C. and Annie Rae Edison, the oldest of seven children.
John lived in Romeo and Dunnellon most of his life, later moving to Chiefland. He graduated from Dunnellon High School in 1957, served as a medic in the Army in Texas and Germany, and worked at Dunnellon State Bank and managed the Dinner Bell Restaurant and Hotel. He enjoyed hunting, farm life and family gatherings.
He is survived by his sisters Judy Markley of Markle, Indiana, and Gail Faircloth of Chiefland, his brothers Edward Edison and wife Janice in Ocala, and Jeff Edison and wife Teri in Chiefland. He was known as Uncle Johnny to 17 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill Edison and wife Patricia of Bainbridge, Georgia, and sister Linda Hasson and husband Dick of Gainesville.
A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, in the Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery, followed by a memorial service at First Baptist Church of Chiefland at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings can be made in his name to the building fund at First Baptist Church of Chiefland.
