John Joseph Egan

John J. Egan, 77, passed away at MRMC on February 2, 2013, following a lengthy illness.  The son of Thomas and Louise Egan, he was born in Queens, New York, and raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey, graduating from Bloomfield High School.  He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.  He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Rutgers University in 1965.  Mr. Egan’s career with New Jersey Bell and AT&T spanned 40 years.  He was formerly a member of the Fort Lee, New Jersey, Rotary Club, where he served as President.  In 1979, Mr. Egan relocated to Longwood, Florida, with his family to work on the break-up of the Bell System.  Ultimately, he retired from AT&T in Orlando, Florida, as Financial Manager.  His children graduated from Bishop Moore High School, Orlando, Florida, where he was an active supporter of the Athletic Program.  Mr. Egan came to Dunnellon, Florida, in 1997 where he was an active member of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers and Dunnellon Presbyterian Church and its Men’s Group.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet; his daughter, Melissa; his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Christie; two granddaughters, Grace and Lily Kate; his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Nancy; his brother-in-law Walter Kesting; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Janice Kesting; and several nieces and nephews.  A Memorial Service conducted by Rev. Jeffrey W. Welch will be held at Dunnellon Presbyterian Church on February 9, 2013, at 2:00 P.M.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Dunnellon Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
