John W. “Wimp” Mong, 85, of Dunnellon, Florida, formerly of Knox, Pa., went to be with his Lord and Savior at the Legacy House following declining health. Wendell was born October 17, 1930, in Fern, Clarion County, Pa., to Virginia (Hess) Mong and Dean Utzinger Mong. On June 10, 1952, he married Marilyn (Cobler) Mong at Knox Lutheran Church, Knox, Pa., by Rev. Lewis Fox. They celebrated 63 years of blessed life together.
Wendell was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1952 and was discharged a Corporal at Camp LeJune, N.C.  After service, he returned to Pennsylvania and worked for Mays Coal Corp., Zuck Coal Corp., and retired from Alltel Corp., after 26 years as outside plant supervisor. Upon retirement, Wendell and Marilyn enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. in their RV. In 1999, they retired to Dunnellon, Florida and spent their summers in their RV in Pa.  Wendell was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church, Cotton Plant, Florida and was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir. He was blessed to have such a wonderful church family and especially enjoyed the after church brunch with (The Gang)! Pastor Bill Kennedy’s messages were a gift of inspiration. Wendell loved his sports, playing basketball and left-handed 1st baseman in baseball. In later years, he loved his golf and had many close golf buddies. Wendell had such a pleasant disposition and made friends with everyone he would meet.
He is survived by his Wife, Marilyn; his children, Jeffrey, wife Elaine of Conway, S.C., Barbara (Mong) Stewart, fiance, Chuck Daly of Clarion, PA; his daughter-in-law Dixie (Mong) Wentling, husband Jeff, of Shipperville, PA;  his grandchildren: Rachel Landers, husband Matthew; Lance Wolfe, wife Jill; Sabra Biordi, husband Jonathan, fiance Cheodi Gracy;  His great grandchildren: Chase McHenry, Zander McHenry, Page Biordi, Logan Biordi, Alex Biordi, and Korbin Wolfe; his sisters: Darelyn King, husband Don, Madelyn Sherman, husband Pat; his brother, Jerry Mong, wife Marilynn, plus many many nieces, nephews and special friends.
He is predeceased by his parents, his sister: Lenora Felmlee, husband Jack, son: Shawn Mong and grandson: Zachary Mong. Special thanks to all his doctors, nurses, assistant nurses, and therapists at ORMC that would not let him give up trying.

Visitation will be held  at Robert’s Funeral Home, Pennsylvania Avenue, Dunnellon, Florida, Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, from 2- 4 p.m., 6-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Friday Oct. 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior to service time at St. John’s United Methodist Church on State Route 328, Cotton Plant, Florida. Interment will follow in church cemetery. There will be a luncheon following the service in the church social hall.

Memorials may be made in John’s memory  to St. John’s United Methodist Church.
