Judy (Barksdale) Schweers

Judy Barksdale Schweers went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 7th, 2020, where she was reunited in Heaven with her Husband of 47 years Bernard Clinton Schweers Sr

Judy was born on November 6th, 1940 in Dunnellon Florida to John (Buddy) and Lela Madeline Barksdale. Judy was the youngest of 3 daughters and is survived by her two older sisters Gladys Eva Chesser and Lela Mae Riley.

Judy Grew up and spent her entire life in Dunnellon where she graduated from Dunnellon High School in 1959. Judy was involved in numerous School Clubs and Organizations including the Ladies Basketball Team, Cheerleading and FHA. Judy also enjoyed swimming and was a member of the local swim team and was most known in her teenage years as one of the popular Mermaids that perform in underwater appearances and commercials.

Judy Joined the First Baptist Church in Dunnellon at a young age and remained an active member throughout her life. Her Church Family was an important part of her life and her Love for God remained unwavering until the end. Everyone that knew Judy, Knew Jesus!

Judy and Bernard are survived by their 3 children, Bernard Clinton Schweers, Jr. (Suzi),  Terri Lynn Latner (Bobby), and Todd Shannon Schweers (Cindy). They would raise their children on the same street that Judy grew up on in Dunnellon and their family grew to include 12 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.

Judy worked in the Dunnellon School System for over 30 years and is known by many in the Community as “Mom” “Grandma” or “Nana”.  Her Legacy remains in the way that she taught us all to see Gods Beauty is the smallest and simplest of things. She never missed an opportunity to take in God’s wonderous work, whether it was in the Sunset or the Rolling Thunder, she would always point out the Beauty of it all.  She will be missed by so many here on earth, but we rejoice in the Knowledge that we will all be together again on those Golden Shores of Heaven.

Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 14, at Dunnellon Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Bobby Thompson officiating.

For the safety of everyone, we ask that everyone please observe social distancing of at least 6 feet.  While face coverings are not required, they are strongly encouraged.
