Julio Fonseca, born May 18, 1923 passed away on January 7, 2015.  He had a productive and rewarding life centered around his faith and service to others.  Mr. Fonseca was a private school teacher in Houston, TX prior to becoming a public school English teacher after his relocation to Florida.  Julio retired to Dunnellon in 1984 and enjoyed each and every year of his retirement.  He was a proud WWII veteran who saw service in North Africa, Italy, Malta and France.  Mr. Fonseca was in the military from 1942 to 1945 serving over 2 years and 6 months in the European Theater of operations.  He was privileged and proud to be a part of the 2012 Honor Flight group of veterans from Ocala, FL selected to be flown to Washington, DC.  After his discharge, Mr. Fonseca attended college in New York.  He was a civil service worker assigned to General Douglas MacArthur’s headquarters in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War.  It was in Japan that Mr. Fonseca met and married his wife Sara who preceded him in death.  Mr. Fonseca was a man of great faith and served through the years in volunteer church positions.  Mr. Fonseca greatly enjoyed his time as a bible study teacher at First Baptist Church of Dunnellon and the friendship of his class.  Julio was an active member of the VFW of Dunnellon for many years.  He was an avid reader and loved literature of all types.  Mr. Fonseca had three books of poems published and all three can be found in the National Library of Congress.
Funeral services for Mr. Fonseca were held on January 12, 2015, at Roberts Funeral Home, 19939 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Dunnellon, FL, with Pastor Russ Randall officiating.  Following the service, Mr. Fonseca was interred alongside his wife in the Dunnellon Memorial Gardens.
