Lonney J. Evon, 70, died on April 21, 2026. He was born into this life on June 20, 1955 in Saginaw, MI and was the son to the late James E. Evon and Marion L. (Cerva).
Lonney was raised in St. Charles, MI and graduated from St. Charles High School. He continued his studies at Alma College where he obtained his teaching degree. While he was in college he met his future wife, Cheryl Bates. They married in 1979. Lonney taught math and business at Quincy Community Schools in Quincy, MI. He coached many different sports, but his favorite was baseball. Lonney led the Quincy Orioles baseball team to a state championship in 1998.
After his teaching career he joined the private sector and was HR Manager for the Walmart Distribution Center #6043 in Coldwater, MI. About five years ago following retirement, Lonney and his wife made their home in Dunnellon, FL. They became members of Riverland Baptist Church in Dunnellon and Lonney decided to get back to work as a Financial Secretary with the church. Of all his accomplishments, the most important to him was his faith in Jesus Christ. He became a born again believer in 1990 and served the Lord until his death in many capacities including youth group, college & career, teaching Sunday school, preaching on occasion and holding the office of deacon for many years. In his leisure time he enjoyed being around the water fishing, which stems from living in Michigan around the chain of lakes. He also enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, and spending time with his wife and family at the beach and state parks. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Cheryl Evon, Dunnellon; his sons, Matthew J. Evon (Kristin), FL, Michael Domenic Evon (Lauren), MI; his daughter, Kaitlyn Renee Mehlhose (Steven), GA; his four grandchildren, Annalisa, Maggie, Maelyn and Nykolette, his 2 sisters, 2 brothers and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11AM at Riverland Baptist Church and will also be livestreamed at riverlandbaptistchurch.com.
