Edwards, Marjorie Elizabeth Griggs, Irvine, Florida, died peacefully at the age of 94 on January 20, 2014 at the home where the Edwards Family had lived since 1903. She was surrounded by her family and her beloved friend and caretaker Vivian Edwards.
A native of Oxford, Florida, Marjorie attended Florida Southern University. She was a quintessential southern lady, who extended grace, love and hospitality to everyone she met. Marjorie was a passionate gardener, an avid needle pointer, and an extraordinary cook. Her gardens were frequently featured in periodicals. Garden clubs from across the southeast would travel to admire her agapanthus, ginger lilies, and hydrangeas. Her pound cakes. baked treats, and family recipes are legendary and have been enjoyed by many.
Marjorie used her talents and her family home and gardens to entertain many over the years. From annual gatherings of treasured family and friends during the holidays, to weddings and spring garden celebrations, Marjorie found great joy entertaining and extending southern hospitality to visitors from far and near.
In addition, Marjorie had an insatiable love of learning. Whether it was reading, traveling, or speaking with people, she thoroughly enjoyed expanding her knowledge and experiences. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life and especially loved her many trips to Wyoming and North Carolina, even at the age of 90.
Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Ethel Griggs; and her late husband Senator L.K. Edwards Jr., with whom she was married fifty years. She is survived by her children L.K. Edwards III, Martha Jane Davis, Elizabeth Ann Edwards, John Martin Edwards; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and eight great great grandxchildren.
A Memorial Funeral Service, celebrating her life, will be held at Saturday (1/25) 11:00 AM at Unity Baptist Church, 1290 NE 100th Street, Anthony, FL. 34479 (352-368-1755). Private family burial.
