IVANEK - Marjorie
(nee Stockwell)
Passed away peacefully with her family
beside her on February 15, 2014.
She was 87, born on September 26,
1926. Marj was a true fighter as her
friends and family know all too well.
Her hometown was Wilson, NY but her
true home was Stuart, FL. She married
Barclay Miller Ivanek after meeting
him at Frances Langford’s Outrigger
Restaurant. At that time, Marj was
working for radio station, WSTU, as a
DJ, salesperson and announcer. Marj
enjoyed several interests in life including
earning her first set of wings with
her pilot’s license at the ripe young age
of 16. Marj acquired her education at
R.I.T. in Rochester, NY. The Ivanek
family moved to Vietnam during the late
1960’s at the height of the war where
Marj worked as a civilian officer for the
PX. The family returned to Stuart and
Marj continued many other interests
while working side by side with Barclay
building custom homes and developing
land in Martin County. Barclay and
Marj are the founders and developers of
Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City,
Florida. Some of Marj’s favorite activities
included: President of the Women’s
Republican Club, Founding President
of the Treasure Coast Chapter of the
National Creative Writers Association,
multiple political rallies and fund raisers
and famously known for throwing great
parties! She loved sailing the local waters
and had an artistic flair for pottery
and painting. In addition, Marj was an
accomplished writer of short stories and
musically gifted with playing the piano,
saxophone and other instruments. She
was a fiercely loyal friend, wife and
mother… and always the life of the
party! Marj is survived by her daughters,
Michele and Linda Lee, her son, Barclay
and her grandson, Michael Kruse.
She will be dearly missed by friends
and family, especially by Michele, Linda
Lee, Barclay, Michael and longtime
family friend, Bill Tripp. Thank you for
the honor of serving you, Mom. You
now have earned your final wings so
soar high and enjoy the journey as you
always instilled in us!
