MARTIN "MARTY" VITEK, 80, Dunnellon, passed on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, in Ocala, Florida.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois and was an accountant and assistant controller with 35 years of service with the Columbia Gas Systems, Inc., in Columbus, Ohio and later Wilmington, Delaware. After retiring in 1992, he and his wife moved to Dunnellon from Wilmington.
He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, and completed graduate studies there. He was a Korean War veteran serving with the U.S. Army. While stationed at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indiana, he taught accounting, and later was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, camping and traveling with his family; he was an avid Ohio State Buckeye football fan, and was a little league baseball coach and commissioner.
Family include his wife Patricia, sons Mike (Mary) Vitek, Houston, Texas and Kenny (Anna) Vitek, Columbus, Ohio; daughter Annie (Bill) Buss, Columbus, Ohio; brother Richard (Marilyn) Vitek, Clermont, Florida; and 4 grandchildren Rachel, Molly, Emily and Zachary.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, June 1, at First United Methodist Church of Dunnellon, with Pastor Eddie Fulford officiating.
Inurnment will follow at a later date and time.
