MARY ELIZABETH "BETTY" MARTIN SIMS, age 98, of Dunnellon, Florida, 98, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012. She was born August 13, 1913, in Shellman, Georgia.
Betty taught school in Levy and Marion Counties for over 31 years, worked as a rural mail carrier, and also as a real estate agent. She was active in several organizations including The Women's Club of Dunnellon, The Historical Society, Order of Eastern Star #235, The NRLCA (letter carriers association), and was a former member of Delta Dapa Gamma Sorority.
She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Dunnellon where she taught Sunday School until the age of 90. After moving into an assisted-living facility in 2008, she enjoyed the bus ministry of Riverland Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons: Martin Stephens, Ocala, FL; Dix Stephens, Trenton, FL; and Stan Stephens, Bradenton, FL; 2 stepsons: George Stephens, Inglis, FL and Judson Stephens, Leesburg, FL; 2 stepdaughters: Ellen Teague, Gaithersburg, MD and Mary Hay, Hawthorne, FL, 31 grandchildren, 60 great- grandchildren, and 37 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 am Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Roberts Funeral Home, Dunnellon, Florida.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, February 24, 2012 at the funeral home.
