As a Christian, Mary Brassell, 91, went home to be with her Savior on May 31, 2024. She was born on September 2, 1932, in Judson, Florida to Elmer and. Sophie Raulerson. As a young child she grew up in Crystal River, Red Level and Dunnellon. She graduated from Dunnellon High School in 1950 and was a star basketball player throughout her high school years on the girls basketball team.

Mary left Dunnellon the following year for San Francisco, California to marry the love of her life, Donald Brassell, who was in the Navy and stationed there. She was married for 13 years and had two daughters with Donald before he died while working as an electrician with Florida Power.

Mary raised her two daughters in Avon Park, Florida, where they were living and went on to continue her education at South Florida Junior College obtaining her AA degree in education and was in Phi Beta Kappa.

Mary moved back to her home town of Dunnellon in 1972 to be with her family and was a substitute teacher at Dunnellon Middle School and Yankeetown Elementary. She later went into banking and retired from Dunnellon State Bank after 25 years.

She was full of love and laughter and was a mother to many. She loved her books and was an avid reader. She always had a story to tell of the days growing up in Dunnellon. She touched the lives of everyone she knew and always met you with the warmest of hugs. Her absence will leave a void in the hearts of her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memories are her two daughters Donnell Griffith and Teresa Townsend, her brother Bennie "Sonny" Raulerson, grandchildren Michael Townsend (Cody) and Lauren Lindsey (Raheem), great grandchildren Abigail Riggs, Tyler Townsend, Ava and Skyla Hill, Trenton Jenkins, Mariah and Kobe Lindsey and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Brassell, her granddaughter Kendra Griffith Hill and her parents Elmer and Sophie Raulerson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Roberts Funeral Home in Dunnellon, Florida. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM. Reception to follow at Souls Harbor Friendship Hall 7220 North US Hwy 41 Dunnellon, Fl 34432.
