Nelda June Niemi, 87, entered into heaven peacefully in the presence of close family members at her daughter’s home in Monroeville, PA. Nelda was born May 7, 1927 in Detroit, MI, daughter of Sherwood A. Vickers and Verena (Jeffrey) Vickers. She was raised in Detroit and graduated from Southeastern High School in 1946. She then attended Wayne University for 2 years as a music major. On January 31, 1948 she married Clarke I. Niemi in The Indiandale Lutheran Church in Detroit, MI. She raised their 2 daughters in Monroeville, PA and they retired to Dunnellon in 1986. Nelda enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, nature, and was active in the Presbyterian Womens Association. Nelda was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clarke, and her sister Helena Wenskay. She is survived by her daughters, Jan A Vaughan (William), Wake Forest, NC and Sherill N. Martin (William), Pittsburgh, PA; her grandchildren, Jesse M. Bentley, Malissa R. (Bentley) Hazel, Matthew T. Taylor, Kristin M. Cook, Andrew C. Martin, Melinda E. Kozminski, Stephanie A. Ballard, Calvin J. Cook, Liam Clarke Bentley, Alina C. Bentley, Luna E. Taylor, Sara E. Cook, Nolan R. Martin, Adaline C. Hazel, Quinn Kozminski, and numerous other nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church of Dunnellon with Jeffrey Welch officiating.
