Staff Sergeant Nelson M. Ward, US Army (Retired), 78, of Lecanto, passed away Tuesday, September 15, at his home. A native of Roanoke Rapids, NC, he moved to this area last year, coming here from Spring Hope, NC. He was a member of Floods Chapel Baptist Church in NC, as well as a member of the VFW. Sgt. Ward proudly served his country in the United States Army for 24 years, including tours in Viet Nam. After retirement, he continued working as a welder for many years.
Survivors include his wife Carol Ann Ward, his three daughters Diana Sumners, Marla McCollum, and Christina Jones, his 3 sisters Elnora King, Ruth Schmidt, and Faye Wheeler, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Services for Sgt. Nelson will held at 10 AM Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with full military honors provided by the US Army.
