Norma Ann Reglien Wolbert passed away on January 20th, 2023.
Norma was born March 27th, 1936, daughter of Hazel Pugh and Norman C. Reglien, MD in Michigan City, Indiana. She had two sisters, Judith and Jennifer. Her nickname, Punky, came from her beautiful pumpkin orange red hair, which at 86 years of age she still possessed.
Punky’s father died when she was 6 years old, and after many moves around the country, she eventually relocated in Los Alamos, NM with her mother, where she graduated from Los Alamos High school. Punky then went on to St Luke’s School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado and began a long career as a registered nurse. She married J. Bob Hart, moved to Texas, and had two sons, Scott and Matthew. After ending her marriage with Bob, Punky moved to Colorado, where she lived in Denver and then Boulder, while taking care of her two children. In 1977 she married Reyell Wolbert, and they moved back to Denver. While scouting for a retirement area in 1984, they were both seriously injured in a life-threatening car accident. During her rehabilitation she found that golf was a good form of therapy and worked to create the Golf-4-Fun organization in Denver, CO. Eventually renamed Golf 4 the Disabled, this organization is still helping disabled people enjoy life even more through the ability to play golf.
Punky eventually retired to Florida with Rey and their beloved West Highland Terrier, Sir Kilton Becket, where she spent many wonderful years enjoying manatees, wildlife preserves, golfing and being part of a church community in the small town of Dunnellon. After almost 40 years of marriage, Rey died in 2017, and Punky moved to Maryland, where she spent the rest of her days with her son Matt and his family, including her granddaughter Haley Reglien Hart, at her side. Points of interests in her life include accidently shoving a file cart into J. Edgar Hoover, but getting only praise from him because he recalled how chummy she had become with his two dogs, which she got to spend time with during her internship at the FBI; Dating a military guard who walked the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery; and Dating David Nelson, the older brother of Ricky Nelson, while briefly attending Hollywood High School in Los Angeles. Her sense of humor and strength will be missed by her family.
