Patsy Steagald (Davis) Maynard

April 13, 1933 — August 14, 2021

Dunnellon

Patsy (Davis) Steagald Maynard, 88, was granted her angel wings on August 14, 2021.  A longtime resident of Dunnellon lost a special lady.  Born in Speedwell, Tennessee on April 13, 1933.  The daughter of Elbert and Melvina Davis.  Patsy received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee.  Later, she received her Master’s degree from the University of Central Florida.  Patsy began her teaching career at her alma mater, Powell Valley High School.  She moved to Dunnellon in 1962 where she taught Home Economics for 32 years.  She started Kiddie World, a child care program, at Dunnellon High School in 1973, which is ongoing to this day.  Patsy was the Senior Sponsor for many years, taking seniors on their end of the year cruise.  She was the FHA Advisor where many of her students went to the state finals.  She touched many lives through her 40 years of teaching.  She gave up teaching in 1988 and became the Vocational Administrative Assistant for Marion County Public Schools.  Patsy continued touching many lives by supporting all the vocational teachers in the school district with her undaunting effort to help students and teachers alike.  Patsy retired in 1996, where she then became a world traveler with her husband John Maynard.  She and John were always on the go and she said her favorite place she visited was Australia, because she got to hold a Koala Bear.  If you were lucky enough to know Patsy you knew she loved people.  She loved helping others, but especially talk to people.  Patsy was also a collector.  She collected things that she loved including: shoes, bells, trains, Koala Bears, thimbles, Armadillos and much more.  Patsy enjoyed life to the fullest and always said that she was blessed to have been able to do the things she did.  Of all the things she loved, she loved God first and foremost.  Another big part of her life was knitting, crocheting and making and selling scrubbies.

Patsy is preceded death by her son Jefferson Davis Steagald.  She is survived by her husband John F. Maynard, two daughters, Mona Steagald and Shawna Steagald, her sister Janice Stover, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
