Raymond was born in Lowell, MA to Wilfred and Theresa Gilbert. He went to Lowell Trade School and upon graduating he went to work as a mechanic for the telephone company. In 1973, he joined the Navy where he served under President Nixon, Ford and Carter. He served at Camp David and the White House during that time until 1977. He then went back to the telephone company and became a journeymen splicer and repair technician. He retired in May 1997 and went on to work for other telephone companies and then TSA. He bought a house in Florida in 2000 and continued to live in New Hampshire until 2005, when he moved down permanently, but we would still go north for summers.

He is survived by his wife Lynda; his sons, David, Duane, and Ray Jr. and his wife Jess; his daughters, Tammy St. John, Michelle Wayment and her husband Shane, Danielle Taylor and her husband, Duane.

He also has someone he donated bone marrow to in Germany who he always considered a son. His name is Andy Bethe and wife, Maria and their two children, Luan and Alia. He has thirteen grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Ray was a wonderful loving husband, father, uncle and friend to everyone and will be greatly missed by all.
