Richard “Hans” Wagner, 75 of Dunnellon, FL died Tuesday January 7th, 2014 at the Hospice Legacy House in Ocala, FL. Hans was born September 4th, 1938 in Lebanon, PA to the late Elam and Mildred (Strohm) Wagner.
He was a retired U. S. Army Airborne Sergeant Major who served our country for 24 years. He had combat tours in Beirut, Lebanon, The Dominican Republic and Vietnam (where he received two Bronze Stars). Other awards and accomplishments in his military career included the Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantryman badge, Master Parachutist Badge, The Army Meritorious Metal and three Army Commendation metals.
He attended Campbell College in Buies Creek, NC receiving an Associate’s Degree in Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. Hans was a loving husband, dad and "Pappy" to his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed reading, traveling and taking care of his home.
Hans is survived by his wife Arlene, son Michael and his wife Sara, daughter Richelle Wagner, Arlene’s children; Edward Wolfe his wife Mary, Donald Wolfe his wife Marie and Linda (Wolfe) Coe and her husband John. Grandchildren; Joshua, Matthew and Leah Wagner, Brian, Paul, John, Kiera and Gary Wolfe and Jackie and Kat Coe. Siblings; Glen and his wife Corrine, Ronald and his wife Carol, Shirley (Wagner) Bensing and her husband Carl. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen (Hetrick) Wagner.
Visitation for family and friends will be at the Roberts Funeral Home in Dunnellon, FL, 19939 East Pennsylvania Avenue, on Monday, January 13th, at 10 am followed by a celebration of life service at 11am. After the service, friends and family are invited to join the procession for a grave side military committal service which will be held at 2 pm at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
