Robert Ray Allen, Jr. died peacefully at his home in Dunnellon, FL on March 16, 2014 at the age of 73 years.
Born in New Brunswick, NJ in 1940, “Bob” was a longtime resident of Bethel, Connecticut and Durham, New Hampshire before moving to Florida in 1995. He was a meat cutter at Sam’s Club in Ocala, FL before retiring in 2005.
Active in local amateur theatre, Bob was an accomplished pianist and singer, known for his rich bass tones. He sang in several choruses and barbershop quartets, including the award winning “Nutmeg Heritage” in Connecticut.
Bob enjoyed NASCAR, hockey, and was an avid chess player. He had a strong affinity for animals and rescued many throughout his entire life.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beth, and his stepmother Annie, both of Dunnellon, FL. He will be greatly missed by his sisters Lynn Slater and Joan Balkau and her husband Kurt Balkau; his children Sheila Brooks, Sheryl Allen, Monica Allen, Christine Robidoux, Mark Allen, Craig Allen, and their spouses; his nieces; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Marion County PO Box 1542, Ocala, FL 34478-1542.
